71 W108 Wood Refurbishing

I recently tackled the wood interior trim on my 1971 W108 280SE, and some local chapter folks asked me for a short write up on what I did.

Working with wood is a hobby of mine that started with growing up in the Philippines around wooden boats, having old cars in the family, and just enjoying the warmth and natural beauty of wood.

Hawaii Section Visits the FHB Car Show

Mark Shrivastava and Greg Gibbons in a Smart looking quite comfortable.

A small delegation of Hawaii Section members visited the First Hawaiian Car Show last month. They explored offerings from various makes in the afternoon of the second day, starting and ending the circuit at the Mercedes-Benz display.

The First Hawaiian Car Show has been a long-running convention for decades and one that is well anticipated for the Hawaii automobile enthusiasts. While the Hawaii show is no match for the likes of the major car shows around the world Hawaiians hungrily settle for what’s available.

Our Hawaii Section representatives first met for a light lunch at the Nordstrom Cafe at the Ala Moana Shopping Center, then walked over to the Hawaii Convention Center. Michael Ventresca, an auto aficionado in true form, kept quickening his pace the closer he got to the convention hall.

President Greg Gibbons generously purchased all the entry tickets for the group, much to their surprise and gratitude.

After the excursion the Hawaii Section returned to the Ala Moana Center for light refreshments at Bubba Gump. And as “car guys” normally do, the talk centered on fine automobiles and commentary on the cars just seen.
